ANY time a child is near a body of water, there is a cause for caution! But with these blistering hot summers, longer days and the need for the outdoors, teaching your young one a new life skill shouldn’t add any more undue stress to your life. Teaching children to swim can mean the difference between life and death if they find themselves accidentally in the water. It is the best way to protect your child!

WHERE TO GO
AND MORE INFORMATION
A typical 40-minute lesson at the Arlington-Mansfield YMCA’s Special Needs Aquatic Program (SNAP) program begins with exercises to get kids ages 5 and up comfortable in the water. The instructors then touch on safety topics and lead fun activities, such as a hula-hoop used as a target that kids swim through, reinforcing the kids’ new-learned skills. Aside with working with you to meet your child’s swim goals, instructors work can work with your therapists as well to help improve their overall goals, such as practicing being verbal.
